The Directors

Our dynamic directors are the driving force behind our continued success and are the guys with the vision of how to do things differently within our industry…

Mitchell Gough

In a Nutshell: Mitch is one of seven Q directors and has 25+ years of financial industry experience – specialising in Corporate Business Protection and Mortgages.

Fun Fact: Has a passion for competitive Motocross racing and only stopped at age 47! (We think he should get back into it!)


Stuart Mackintosh

In a Nutshell: Stu is an ex-golf professional and footballer – his claim to fame is playing against England in front of Sir Bobby Robson.

Fun-Fact: Loves his fly fishing and often ventures to Lake Vyrnwy and the Scottish highlands to escape the hustle and bustle. He’s also recently discovered the benefits of Yoga. His extended family tree has ties to royalty… or so he says!


Ryan Wheeler

In a Nutshell: Ryan is an avid sports lover, he is also an ex-professional golfer and failed footballer!

Fun Fact: Loves all things Aston Villa – even when it’s bad (which is most of the time). Ryan loves to travel and his claim to fame was enjoying a Big Mac and drink with One Direction’s Harry Styles and Niall Horan… we think they were the privileged ones!


Gary Preston

In a Nutshell: One of the brains behind Q, Gary also has over a decade of Business and Property Investment Expertise.

Fun Fact: As well as playing football to a high level in his hometown of Birmingham, Gary used to coach ‘football’ for a variety of clubs in England and then ‘soccer’ for LA Galaxy in California. He’s an avid Liverpool fan and season ticket holder…hold on…I thought he said he’s from Birmingham?!


Dave Edwards

In a Nutshell: Dave plays for Shrewsbury Town FC and recently retired from the Wales National Football squad. He is also co-founder and trustee of Little Rascals Foundation, which supports children with disabilities.

Fun Fact: He was an avid cross country/fell runner and he’s looking forward to taking on the Longmynd Hike when he retires from football… that’s 50 miles over the Shropshire Hills! He’s also Only Fools and Horses’ number one fan.

Simon Farenden

In a Nutshell: You can see the passion in Simon’s eyes when he talks mortgages! He was the first Adviser to join the team when Q Financial Services  was formed back in 2016. With a background in Personal Banking and Sports Performance Coaching, Simon has found his calling in Mortgage and Protection advice.

Fun Fact: Simon used to represent Team GB in 100m & 200m sprinting with the fastest time of 10.29s! He has a deep-seated passion for his beloved Chesterfield FC.


Ben Wootton

In a Nutshell: Ben originally started his career as a Care Worker supporting children and adults with disabilities and went onto manage various Care Homes and delivered training around the country. Ben set up Little Rascals Indoor Play centre in 2015 and founded Little Rascals foundation, a charity supporting children with disabilities in 2016. Ben is now really enjoying his career in financial services as a mortgage and protection adviser.

Fun Fact: Ben’s job interview involved going on a 3 day “business trip” to Vilamoura to showcase his worth to the Directors – Ben nearly hindered his chances by throwing one of the directors shoes into the Atlantic Ocean!


Dan Harris

In a Nutshell: Dan has over 13 years’ experience within the Financial & Property sector. His passion has always been helping people purchase their next dream home, whether this has been in Estate Agency role or as an adviser.

Fun Fact: Dan is a huge sports fan, supporting Leeds United for his sins. Enjoys playing rugby and part of his local boxing club. Loves his music and had ambition of having his own songs played on radio fulfilled in recent years.

Andrew Dunn

In a Nutshell: You will find Andrew at the side of a football pitch or on the side of a lake/swimming pool, spending most of his spare time helping out coaching his daughters football team or travelling to and from open water and swim training for the other one.
Andrew spent a number of years within the motor trade industry, selling vehicles on behalf of JLR, Ford Direct & RCI before re evaluating his situation at the beginning of the pandemic, completing his CII industry qualifications in fine fashion before joining us here at Q Financial to join the Mortgage & Protection team.

Fun Fact: Loves a scotch Egg, hot or cold!

Joanne Wilkinson

In a Nutshell: With a background of more than 25 years in Customer service, estate agency, and the General insurance sectors, Joanne is passionate about the dedicated and bespoke service she offers to her clients.

Joanne ensures she proactively maintains an exceptional relationship with her clients throughout with regular communication and being available 24/7 for her clients. Joanne walks alongside her clients at every step of their journey with her in order to ensure their complete satisfaction.

Client Liaison Team

Our indispensable admin team are the ones who keep Q ticking! The Client Liaison Team help facilitate the smooth running of the office on a day to day basis, following up with cases and ensuring no stone is left unturned…

Andrea Watkins

In a Nutshell: Andrea predominantly has over 25 years of accounts and payroll experience and has worked on and off in the financial industry for years. Andrea enjoys working with figures and is very much a people person and will go above and beyond to help clients. She is also our General Insurance Specialist with the expert knowledge to get Q Financial Services clients nothing but the best service. 

Fun Fact: Andrea owned a sofa shop and used to make various items from natural stone! Andrea loves rowing and gets up at 5:15am most mornings to row before coming to work!!


Harrison Wheeler

In a Nutshell: Harrison has recently started his career in financial services, starting in our CLT team to work his way up to be a qualified financial adviser.

Fun Fact: Following in his dad’s footsteps, Harrison is a big Aston Villa Fan and loves playing football. He also has all the gear and no idea when it comes to golf.

Emma Dalton

In a Nutshell: Emma is a Shropshire girl and was born and bred into a family who all work in the property industry. Emma has a lot of experience working within the property sector and working with local estate agents. She has a strong work ethic and a broad knowledge of the industry. Emma has relished the opportunity of joining Q and has established herself as a pivotal part of the administration team. Emma is a smiley face around the office and will go out of her way to help the rest of her colleagues at Q.

Fun Fact: Emma used to work on super yachts and travelled the seas for many years. She looked after various celebrities and loved to serve Crystal and beluga caviar.


Piers Hindhaugh

In a Nutshell: Piers has joined our administration department and is taking his first steps into the financial services world. Piers is Shropshire born and grew up in the village of Pontesbury. Piers is very driven and is already showing a great understanding of the industry. He brings a positive approach and has fit in perfectly with the Q Family.

Fun Fact: Piers is a keen golfer and can often be seen at Arscott golf club wearing his very extravagant gear. He believes himself to be very fashionable and interesting (we’ll let you decide).

Steve Parry

In a Nutshell: The head of Q Commercial Finance, Steve has over 15 years of experience in Commercial Banking. He is a specialist in the industry and has a passion for helping businesses grow!

Fun Fact: As well as being an Aston Villa fan he also captains his local Sunday league football team each week. He is a disgraceful golfer and can often be found hacking up the fairways of Wrekin Golf Club when the suns out.

Josh Timbrell

In a Nutshell: Josh has a decorated history of experience in the finance market and is no minor when it comes to providing professional advice on all things Commercial. He has an excellent success rate completing deals and enjoys tackling more complex difficult cases that takes creativity and initiative to achieve his clients requirements.

Fun Fact: Before being recruited by Q, Josh was a part time cocktail Mixologist whilst studying Business. He also achieved his 3rd Dan blackbelt in Kickboxing before his 16th Birthday and is a massive foodie – eating over 6 meals a day!


David Wells

In A Nutshell: David joined Q after running two premier golf venues before achieving his Golf Professional Teaching Degree. Having mastered the world of golf, Dave fancied a new challenge and following a chance meeting with one of the Q Directors he was inspired to join the company. Dave is a huge football fan and follows his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers across the country, you can also regularly find him on the golf course. He loves office banter, working with the team and helping people achieve their dreams.

Fun fact: David used to be a Teaching Golf Professional and also played junior volleyball for the West Midlands (many years ago)


Mike Barton

In a Nutshell: Mike grew up as keen tennis player and went on to run a tennis coaching business across the Shropshire area. Mike is proud to have represented the county tennis team and was the U21 county champion. Mike’s father is a retired IFA so Mike has always been close to the financial world and is now following in his fathers footsteps. Mike is passionate about working with businesses in the Shropshire and wider community and is always up for a chat. You will often see Mike networking across the county and promoting the Q brand.

Fun Fact: Mike is in a marching band set up by his father over 30 years ago. He plays the snare drum and often parades through his hometown of Bewdley on occasions such as Remembrance Day and St Georges Day.


Group Administrator

Marie Brocklehurst

In a Nutshell: Marie supports the Commercial team in their day to day operations ensuring all the cogs run smoothly. She has worked in the financial services industry for the last 9 years and loves being able to help our clients achieve their financial goals with a friendly and professional service, always.

Fun Fact: In her spare time, Marie enjoys navigating at 4x4 off road competitions with her brother and a group of friends, where she enjoys nights away camping and socialising around the camp fire.

Lee Fellows

In a Nutshell: Lee has 21 years in the financial services industry, with the last 14 years in an advisory capacity and joins Q Wealth Management to head up its Financial Planning Division. Having worked with private banks and global insurance firms, advising clients on all aspects of financial planning, Lee is suitably placed to provide help and support.

Fun Fact: As keen golfer, he likes to grace the fairways of as many courses as he can and once bumped into Sir Alex Ferguson at a charity golf day. Sir Alex even managed to persuade Lee to get a picture with him!


The Paraplanners & Client Liaison

Lorraine Pugh

In a Nutshell: Lorraine has worked in the financial services industry since 2007, initially started her career at one of the main street banks during the recession, before joining a market leader in the investment, protection and private medical space. Lorraine joined Q Financial Planning in 2021 and is working towards her level 4 diploma in Financial Planning.

Fun Fact: She is a child at heart and height, it’s a good job because she has a fear of heights. She has two young children, and with her fear of spiders she often relies on her son to save the day, whilst her daughter is pirouetting in the corner.


Kirsty Ambrose

In a Nutshell: Kirsty joined the Q Financial Services team in August 2019 after a previous career in childcare and mental health rehabilitation. Having come from a non-industry background, she has utilised her previous skills alongside training from her colleagues to become an important cog in the client liaison team. 

Fun Fact: In Kirsty’s spare time she enjoys taking her dog Meg for walks, going swimming, socialising and occasionally going on holiday!

Helen Esslemont

In a Nutshell: Helen has a background in managing social care and support services across Shropshire, Herefordshire & Staffordshire and has seen first hand what can go wrong. She is committed to providing accurate and relevant information to clients, in order that they can best protect themselves, their family and their assets. A lifelong learner, Helen has 2 honours degrees and a list of professional qualifications in Health & Social Care & of course, Will Writing.

Fun Fact: Helen spent part of her childhood in Hong Kong and could mostly be found hunting toads and snakes, for fun. Still an avid animal lover, she has 2 dogs, 2 cats and a snake called ‘Fangs’ – next she wants to get a parrot!
